Experiences with low dose nortriptyline

Posted by dannen on October 28, 2003, at 12:52:57

My doctor wants to start me with low dose nortriptyline (NT) for agitated depression (i.e., depression with great anxiety in the morning). I will start with liquid NT this week, moving up slowing a few mgs at a time. He seems to think that 10 mg might suffice. I have read much higher dose levels are needed for depression(e.g., 50-150 mg/day) and that there is a therapeutic window (50-150 ng/ml or 30-150 ng/ml).

Has anyone had success with low dose NT for depression? Are blood tests typically required? When is the best time to get the blood tests? Do I need to have blood plasma levels checked regularly?

I appreciate any help you can give me. Thanks so much.

Dannen
