> We are not told how long the poor unfortunate was in the tapering off phase.nor what was his/her maximum dosage in the past.Nor are we given any background information as to lifestyle, possible polydrug abuse,family-genetic predisposition, ect.Reports of any similar cases would be more than welcome, including as much background detail as possible please. What was not included in the quotation provided was extra information about the subject, to whit, that the subject had previously abruptly discontinued alprazolam, which caused seizures. The patient was then put back on alprazolam, in order to do a dose taper, but seizures recurred. It is arguable that the primary injury occurred during the abrupt cessation episode. It would be difficult, in not completely inappropriate, to draw more general conclusions from this case report. Severe symptoms associated with benzodiazepine withdrawal are known to occur. Abrupt discontinuation is not recommended.
