instant but fleeting response to ssri's - why?

Posted by craig allen on October 17, 2003, at 15:52:25

i have a significant history of getting a robust response to ssri's. most recently, and this is typical for me, i went back on prozac. an hour or so after my first dose, 20mg, i felt my depression lift. the anxiety, pervasive negativity and lethargy just went away. this lasted for about 24 hours. three days later, yesterday, i bumped my dose to 40mg and had the same experience. i still feel well today but i know i'm on the clock. this will continue even at high doses - so apparently it isn't a matter of my dose being too low. come to think of it, this has happened to me on two anti-psychotic meds also (prescribed to augment an AD). abilify and seroquel gave me tremendous relief from my depression for only a few days each. does this happen to anyone else? any theories? any strategies? incidentally, i've been on 5 mood stabalizers to augment AD's - none of them have had any effect.
