I've been there before... for several years, actually. It can be so frustrating to have a few fleeting days of what it's like to be happy, only to return to the reality of life on yet another anti-depressant that's yet to kick in. Don't give up, though. It really is worth it in the end. I never believed anyone who told me that, but it turned out to be true. Don't get me wrong, I'm not out of the woods yet, but I am on solid ground with a decent view :)
Have you ever been on any anti-convulsants? In particular, Tegretol, Trileptal or Lamictal? If you continue to get half-assed or inconsistent results with the ADs... look into the anti-convulsants. My favorite is Trileptal -- very effective with essentially no side-effects. As opposed to the drug I'm on, moclobemide, which also has essentially no side-effects, but doesn't appear to be very effective. Works for me, though. Anyway, just a thought.

I took 37.5 of Paxil CR. I honestly forget if I took it in the morning or the evening. It shouldn't matter when you take it as far as efficacy is concerned, but it's possible you'd be less sedated during the day if you take it at night.
Take care,
Jon :)
