Hello,
I'm a student in college (5th yr) and have been on and off Dextrostat/Adderall for about 5 years now. I was wondering if anyone has any information on taking Adderall for ADHD and how it can effect a persons physical activity.
I take a 30mg adderall in the morning and then half a 30 5-6 hours later. For the most part I've never really worked out with Adderall before but started a month ago and notice a big difference on it then without it.
Two big changes seem to occur. One is that I can really and truly focus on working out when I go to the gym. My previous attempts to goto the gym have always failed because i get bored after a week or while i'm trying to lift weights I start thinking of a tv show I wanna watch, math problems, etc. Now with adderall I notice the difference that I want to goto the gym and enjoy going.
The second change is on the negitive side. After an 8 year haitus i'm trying to get back into martial arts. One form in perticular that is called Capoeria. For those of you that don't know this form, think of it as a break dancing fighting style. This form is very strenious because you are constantly moving(dancing), fliping and kicking. There's no real pause between moves. Now i'm a big guy (6'2", 220 pd) and I've noticed that even though I'm back in shape I can't push myself for long periods of time. To describe what I go through it feels like I've been running flat out till my heart is pounding. I can't seem to keep up the pace with everyone else. After only a short while my body is literally dripping with sweat (It accually pours off me and I'm known for drinking a gallon+ of water per hour), I feel like my body tempurature is ridiculusly high measured it once at (105-6) that I get dizzy and my heart is pounding so fast and hard people can see the arteries in my neck pulse. The odd thing is once I stop for a minute or two I'm ready to go again and I can keep this rythme of working out for while then a quick break for hours and hours (longer then anyone else can). To me it feels like someone whos just starting to get back into shape but I've been working out for over a month and started with cardio to get back into shape. This shouldn't be happening.
Doesn't anyone have any info/advice/questions about this case or something simliar to it that could help me? I tried going without taking my Adderall and I was a mess; i couldn't focus on what i was doing.I know that Adderall raises the blood pressure, but to be honest this is the first time in a good long time that i've been so physically active (Senior year of highschool when I worked at a scuba diving shop and played paintball). I don't want to stop and if taking adderall means having to stop often and sweating so much, I'd rather accept it then not work out at all. I almost always work out 2+ hours after my 15mg dose.
Also something that might help clarify I've been known for having a high body tempurature at times. I've been perfectly fine walking around with a 103 tempurature (Was a random school medical exam when I was little) and when I get sick it usually goes up to 107-108. No Doctor has given me an explaination for this.
