5 mg of Lex has the same active ingredient as 10 mg Celexa. But the "inactive" ingredient of Celexa appears to compete with the active ingredient. Therefore, people guess that 5 mg of Lexapro is probably as strong as 15 to 20 mg Celexa.
However, 5 mg of Lexapro is for many people too low over time. It might work well initially. Don't hesitate to ask your doctor to increase the dose at a later date if you feel the need. I personally take 20 mg Lexapro and am doing very well.
