I recently decreased my doseage from 225 to 150 with very little problems. Heres what I did. I usually take 150 in the morning and 75 at about 1:00pm. On day one I took my regular 150 in the morning, I didn't take my 75 until about 6:00pm.
Day 2 150 in the mid morning, 75 at 9:00pm. Day 3 150 mid to late morning no 75 at all. Now I did wake up with quite the headache, so I took the 150 right away. I also took the 75 that night at bedtime. The next day took the 150 late morning, no 75 that day. Woke with a headache and took the 150 right away. From that day on I didn't take the 75 again.
I say judge your body, if I could feel a headache comming on take the med, but space them out by even a few hours and then eliminate it one day and take the next, then two days and take the third eventually your body will come to not depend on the effexor at all. I also used this method while changeing from Paxil to effexor and it worked great, a side from a headache (sign to take the med, then it goes away til your body need a slight boost again) no other side effects.
Slowly lower the dose and then come off. Again with the paxil, I took it one day and then not again until I felt that slight withdrawl syptom and then took one or part of a dose again. Eventually I took some once every three days, then four, than done. Dont quick cold turkey, it never works.
