Though I personally was a non-responder to Nardil, I can answer a few of your questions. The price is fairly reasonable, all things considered -- about $60 per 100 15mg tablets. Availability is a whole 'nother issue, though. On and off since last November, a few people on the board have had trouble getting their prescription (I'm not sure of the specifics, though I know there was a recall of Nardil in early November '02 due to expired sub-potent product). I don't think anyone's having trouble obtaining it these days, but more than likely your pharmacy will have to special order it for you, which is a real pain to go through every month -- I was on 120mg for quite a while, and the last few days of every month I had to conserve by lowering my dose to 75-90mg for a few days while awaiting my next shipment to arrive at the pharmacy. I'm sure not everyone has this problem though.
I noticed no adverse cognitive effects, though the sexual dysfunction, weight gain, and orthostatic hypotension were quite pronounced.
Nardil's primary mechanisms of action are to inhibit monoamine oxidase types A and B. MAO-A is the enzyme which breaks down serotonin, noradrenaline, and adrenaline, while MAO-B has the same effect on dopamine and several other neurotransmitters... acetylcholine perhaps? Anyway, because these neurochemicals are protected from premature degradation/destruction from MAO, their levels rise within the brain. Nardil also inhibits GABA-transaminase (GABA-T), which breaks down GABA -- it is this action that increases the total amount of GABA available.
As for the other questions, I'm sure someone else will answer -- I ztayed on it for eight months total (six months at 120mg) and had nothing but side effects. It was sooo disappointing. But hell, it's worth a shot.
