Hi mitch-
I don't know if you remember me or not, but we spoke about my son, ben, who is 16 years old and autistic.
since i last posted, took ben off trileptal and abilify and he was much better. that left him only on 3/4 mg. rispedal. To refresh you about ben's med history, he had been on risperdal, tegretol and zoloft for ages and had done great. low white blood count on tegretol and had to try other things. anyways, they said at school that ben was not compliant when he was only on risperdal, and we added a small dose lexapro. He was GREAT.....for a few months. then he got manic. So, off lexapro and for the last 3 weeks or so we have been trying topamax. We only got up to 37.5 mg. topamax so far. We hate it. When he takes any during the day he has a very flat affect ..and he also is very obsessive, which is what happened on abilify and trileptal. he also seems to be having some mood swings. We decided to try to just give it to him last night (his pdoc is out of town until tuesday). I really don't think this is working. Why does he always get obsessive on these drugs? He needs an antidepressant, I think, and am desperate for any ideas on what to do at this point.....for some reason my pdoc keeps on suggesting things and he keeps on getting agitated/obsessive. He was his best on low dose lexapro at the beginning (with low dose risperdal). I am afraid to try anything else because of his reactions to meds. lamactil? zonegram? with an antidepressant? HELP! any ideas?
thanks,
elise
