Depression, SSRI's, Stuttering, and Smoking

Posted by MattL on August 30, 2003, at 17:17:55

I am looking for information realted to depression, SSRI's, Stuttering and Smoking. When I was a child I had a mild stutter which went away in my teens. When I was 18 I went on Celexa for depression. When I was 20 my psychiatrist and I switched my medication to Wellbutrin due to a depressive relapse. It was around this time that I began to stutter again, as well as start smoking. To elimate the stutter I was having, we decided to try Lexapro. I still have a stutter, smoke, and am on 20mg of Lexapro a day. I know SSRI's effect serotonin levels, as well as domaine indiretly. I know stuttering has been shown to be related to doamine levels. I also know that smoking can effect neurotransmitters in all kinds of ways. What I would like to know is what the hell I should try? If I am stuttering, and on SSRI's for depression (and feel pretty normal while on Lexapro), is it possible my brain produces too little serotonin and too much dopamine. Or does it produce too little serotonin and just the right amount of domaine, but when I am on SSRI's my domaine levels are indirectly effected? Or is smoking fiddling with my levels of both serotonin and dopmaine? How can I solve these questions? I know I must solve them experimentally to find what works, but is there any research to the effect of the questions I am asking? Do you have any insight Dr.Bob? Any experience anyone else? All comments would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Matt L.

<I am reposting here now that I relized this is the are for medication related issues- oops.>
