First off, ephedrine is very similar to amphetamines and methylphenidate -- it's key difference is its increased peripheral effects. So I'd do some research on this, bring it in to him and question him about this.
Funny you should ask about Wellbutrin though. I tried it some time ago and the first dose gave me such horrible anxiety that I immediately called my doctor and asked him to call in a prescription for something else (and then proceeded to take 10mg of my mom's Xanax). *But*, at the time I was not taking benzodiazepines. Anyway, due to Medicaid's complete and utter incompetence, I am unable to get another supply of the Nicotrol Inhalers last week... I was absolutely infuriated, as the inhalers actually *worked*, where nothing else did, and I quit smoking for four weeks. So how this all ties in with Wellbutrin is that I went to my GP and she prescribed Zyban (same thing as Wellbutrin, just marketed for smoking cessation instead of depression). I have tried Zyban in the past, but I wasn't aware at the time that it was the same chemical as Wellbutrin (bupropion HCl), so you can imagine I was pretty angry when I took my first dose of the stuff. And to add to the nightmare, Zyban is sustained-release, so I was stuck with the anxiety-laden horror for what seemed like an eternity, lol. Anyways, this was five days ago and I'm now at 150mg twice daily (and smoking again... grrrr.....), but of course it's too soon to tell. But the good news is that the anxiety and insomnia I had experienced during my first trial are completely absent (thusfar). I'm positive this is due to my taking high doses of both Xanax XR and Klonopin Wafers. I have heard that Wellbutrin can have the same beneficial effects on social phobes as amphetamines (though not nearly as reliably effective), but I guess time will tell. As for the OCD, I have no clue... though dopamine-stimulating medications (like Wellbutrin) usually tend to worsen OCD symptoms. I'm not too worried about it personally because my OCD is moderately mild and the Ultram completely takes care of it.
Anyway, I'll let you know when the effects kick in. :-)
