SSRIs aren't the 100% silver bullet » sisyphus

Sisyphus, what symptoms prompted the prescription of Prozac? Lethargic and inattentive sorts of depression can concievably involve *too much* serotonin with correspondingly low dopamine and norepinepherine. That's my current "line", as I think that sort of neurotransmitter imbalance, combined with post-meal hypoglycemia, was what turned me into a hypersomniac brain-fogged computer-chair-bound zombie. If you have too much serotonin to begin with, an SSRI will only make things worse, as might have happened to me twice before. I am relying on diet, supplements, and exercise to get my system back into balance.

The sort of folks Kramer profiled in "Listening to Prozac" as having the "better than well" effect were all rather high achievers suffering from emotional discontent. "Get-up-and-go" wasn't the root of their problem (though they typically became even more productive with greater self-esteem and mood). Also SSRIs have a good track record for OCD symptoms. I doubt they help the people with anhedonia and poor motivation one bit and I think it probably makes a good portion of them worse. But "depression" is "depression" right? Ask a couple questions and toss 'em a sample of the SSRI-of-the-week and see 'em in two weeks. *rolls eyes*
