Paxil does cause weight gain in a fair number of people. From what I have read, it's not clear if the Paxil weight gain is from increasing appetite, or changing one's metabolism.

Of course you can stay on it and try exercise and diet. The other alternative is to try a different SSRI. The other SSRI's generally do not cause weight gain. A third alternative is to stay on Paxil and ask your doctor about adding Wellbutrin to help fight the weight gain.
