Effexor XR and Restless Leg Syndrome

Posted by Diane J. on August 6, 2003, at 0:42:42

I know that Effexor has been discussed on this board for many years now... I've been taking the drug since 1998. I haven't experienced difficulty with Effexor EXCEPT when I once attempted to withdraw from it. I've read that Effexor has been connected to Restless Leg Syndrome, and for the past month I have been suffering from insomnia and restless legs at night. Today I saw my doctor and she wants me to lower my daily dose from 225mg to 150mg. I think she does believe that Effexor is the culprit and another antidepressant would be better for me. What I was wondering is why would Restless Leg Syndrome show up after 5 years of Effexor? Is this a "long-term effect?" Also, I'm kind of scared to attempt withdrawal again. After the failed first try I decided I would probably be on Effexor for life. I sincerely appreciate any information.
