In reply to OFFICIAL POLL: What dose of Nardil are you on?, posted by Angelic9144 on August 1, 2003, at 18:01:36
60mg for about 10 weeks. After about 6 weeks I stopped for 2 days, but resumed without noticing a difference.
2 weeks ago (about 8 weeks on nardil) I stopped for three days - and started on a decline. I am just beginning to feel the "happy nardil vibes" that I was feeling before I stopped.
May I suggest 7 other questions you ask in your official poll? Sorry, if you find this annoyingly long or excessive, I think it would be helpful to people. Ignore if you want. :)
1) what are you taking nardil for/med history?
dysthymia - have had 2-3 periods of deeper depression in the past. also experience some social anxiety in large group settings - but these are virtually non-existent in one-on-one settings.
2) how long did it take to kick in? For me it was after 5 weeks on nardil (with the first week being a quick incremental increase from 15 to 30 to 45 to 60mg).
3) taking any other meds in combination? i was on provigil for sleepiness - initially 100mg, then 150 mg. i didn't feel it was working. I stopped it for 2 weeks, and started again yesterday so i'll let you know.
4) side effects? a) contrary to common statements I didn't gain weight, but rather lost 7 pounds in the first 5 weeks. Probably due to a combination of the frequent diarrea I had, cutting out cheese and beer which I had always had a lot of, and finally feeling the impetus to exercise. b) tiredness during the day, but i wake up a few times during the night, and ironcially have no problem getting out of bed in the morning which used to be a problem. c) dizziness. d) slightly lowered sex drive.
5) (when) did the side effects subside; if so do you think you know why or was it just time? a) the diarrea stopped after about 5 weeks. I think my body finally adjusted and I changed my diet - whole grain high fiber cereal for breakfast every morn. I have maintained the weight loss. b)still experience daytime tiredness - however, in the past couple of days I have started 100mg of provigil again after a 2 week break and I have started drinking coffee again (1-2 cups) after not having drunk it since i started nardil. - this seems to help. If necessary I will gradually increase my provigil dose to 200 mg, and if i don't have consistent improvement this time, then I'll try another stim. c) for dizziness, i started taking a vitmamin B complex last week, and it seems to help. d) lower sex drive is consistent - not going to worry about that for now.
6) what meds if any have you tried before nardil?
zoloft; zoloft + prozac; prozac; wellbutrin; wellbutrin + ritalin; wellbutrin + effexor + ritalin; wellbutrin + effexor; wellbutrin + provigil.
7) how stringingently have you followed the dietary restrictions and other guidelines?
I do not eat any cheese - it was my favorite! i do not eat smoked lox - also a favorite. no smoked food at all. nothing pickled, except desserts that have fruit cured in sugar. i eat chocolate from time to time with no problems. I have started coffee again - and I never quit green tea, which has caffeine. I eat a little bit of soy sauce with sushi and have had 1-2 glasses of sake with no problem - i don't have wine. Ironically, I used to love beer but now have no taste for it. Bannanas are fine. Remember - everyone's body is different.
Warning - I have a friend on nardil who used coke and ended up in the hospital.
Good luck with your poll.
