Viral causes of Depression and Bipolar? Treatments

Several years ago, news was about that drug companies might try antiviral drugs to treat depression/bipolar disorders. One possible culprit was borna virus, another a form of herpes damaging glial cells in the brain. Has anyone heard anything about this recently? Are there any anti-viral medicines or herbs that cross the blood brain barrier to try?
