The main thing that comes to mind here is that magnesium (that is what you are talking about by "mag," right?) is an antacid, and you do need stomach acid to have normal gastric functioning... so, maybe you could try taking it in smaller doses, interspersed throughout the day, or with some highly acidic vitamin like niacin (not niacinamide, though) or perhaps vitamin C?
