James,
the following website had quite a bit of information, particularly from a Dr Seastrunk (MD). http://www.clearchoiceofny.com/link_directory/dynamic-frameset.html?http://home.tampabay.rr.com/lymecfs/nfaq.htm The umbrella site where I found this, clearchoiceofny.com, looks poor-to-crappy overall. However, you will find some specifics on GABA receptor dynamics there.
I can see there is a lot of concern about overprescribing neurontin. At my very superficial first look, it appears that prescribing it alone is done rarely.
My psychiatrist says it is a membrane stabilizer. I see recommendations that it be spread evenly through the day (and I just got directions to go from evening only to morning and evening).
The thing I am concerned about is "dose ramping." I started at 100 mg but then it took 200-300 to get to sleep. Now I am at 600 mg morning and 600 evening.
My psychiatrist saw me and my wife for a year before he or we discussed drugs. He has earned my respect (I am a scientist, mostly chem engineering), and he is not concerned about it except for checking kidney function (I needed a diuretic due to water retention on the neurontin).
Are you on neurontin? I am on 1200 mg/day neurontin, 75 mg/day effexor XR and 60 mg/day remeron.Phil
