DEPAKOTE and BLOOD THINNING ??

Posted by Janelle on July 12, 2003, at 19:21:34

Help! The last two times I've gone to the lab for blood draws, after the person has taken the blood and put the cotton/gauze on, I have bled rather profusely from the area. In fact, the second time it happened I had to return to the lab ASAP so they could have me rinse it and put on some kind of tight bandage wrapped around the piece of cotton/gauze.

My former pdoc told me something (I can't remember exactly what; I didn't understand him at the time!) about DEPAKOTE affecting blood platelets and I think he said it makes blood not CLOT as quickly.

Well, the first time I bled after the blood draw I was on 750mg of Depakote (not a whole lot) and this time which was worse with the bleeding I am only on 250mg of Depakote!! (I am very sensitive to meds).

Does anyone know if Depakote can cause what I've described here, even at a very low dose? Thanks.
