My doctor wouldn't let me combine Effexor and Meridia because of the risk of serotonin syndrome. If yours won't consider it either, you may want to try a different SSRI. I know that when I took Prozac, I lost my appetite and ate far less than I normally did...food just didn't appeal to me very much. Desserts, in particular, lost all appeal -- I'd stop after the first bite of cookie/candy/cake, etc. because it nearly gagged me. Needless to say, I lost a lot of weight (about 30 pounds) in about 5-6 months.
