The use of omega-3 fish oil is rapidly evolving and doses are not set in stone yet.Fish oil contains EPA and DHA and it is mostly EPA that is relevant (although DHA is low in bipolar and Alzheimers and is important in pregnancy for building up the baby`s brain),not the total weight of the capsules.For depression 1g EPA seems to be a typical dose and for schizophrenia 2g EPA.The 9.6g figure originated in a publication by Andrew Stoll MD in 1999 on bipolar disorder but he finds that he usually prescribes 5g max as a rule now.I have more details on omega-3 in www.omega3.20megsfree.com
