I was on 400 mg of Wellbutrin for dysthymia and added Ritalin (extended release). For the first couple of weeks ritalin gave me the additional energy boost I needed, but my tolerance to it increased rapidly. My pdoc increased the dose, and soon it wasn't giving me positive, focusing energy, but just made me feel "awake-tired", jumpy and irritable. Then I switched to Provigil (while still on Wellbutrin). The good news is that Provigil is a lot subtler, and I do not experience any speed-like crashes. The bad news is that Provigil can be too subtle, and sometimes I think it does not much more than a cup of strong coffee. I started on 100 mg of Provigil, then went up to 200 mg. My doctor told me it was o.k. to go to 400 mg - which I occassionally do - but it doesn't necessarily do anything else except mess with my stomach.

For the past month I've switched from Wellbutrin to Nardil (while still on Provigil). As far as energy goes, Nardil is a bit too much of drain for Provigil to handle so I plan on asking my doc for something to replace the Provigil. What that will be, I do not know. Open to anecdotal recommendations about Adderall or anything else.

P.S. I think that you really haven't given the Wellbutrin a chance. When I started I was on 150 mg. for about 3 weeks, then 300 for about a month until it pooped, then finally 400. The 2.5 week period you have seems too short to give the lower dosages a chance.

> I started taking Wellbutrin (for mild depression and ADD) 2.5 weeks ago. So far I have worked up from 100 mg. to 300 mg. with the goal of 400 mg. At first I noticed good improvement in my mood as well as reduced appetite, but as the dose goes up I have not noticed any more improvement. (I am hoping the Wellbutrin will help me lose the 40 pounds I gained on Effexor & Prozac.) Do I just need to give the Wellbutrin more time to work, or is this going to be all it does for me, or should I take a higher dose? If this is all the improvement I am going to see, I won't complain too much because it has done some good things and so far I have not had any problems with it at all.

I have taken Adderall in the past, but not on a regular basis because it caused insomnia/early waking at first. I now think that was due to some Prozac still being in my system because I was very sensitive to any kind of sleep disturbance at the time. I now sleep better.

Effexor was fantastic for the first 6 months or so but then caused some hypomania and the withdrawal was hellish. Prozac didn't seem to have much effect, but I think my body had "pooped-out" on the SSRI's by that point.)
