In reply to Postpartum depression and effexor, advice????, posted by AAH on June 30, 2003, at 0:36:03
Hi AHH,
I cant be supportive on the matter of postpartum depression, I am a man, but can tell you that some people get worse on meds, whyever. Effexor XR worked quite well for me for some time, but then got worse. I would not say, although I am no doctor, that Effexor is known to worsen PPD. How long are you taking it? Many people experience a little worsening, especially anxiety, in the beginning but do well after 2 month or so. Effexor is in general a very effective drug, and many people who failed to respond to a SSRI, like Celexa, do well on Effexor. If its unbearable, talk to your doctor and tell him about it. He might switch you to a different drug.
Take care
Roland
> I was on Paxil before and during my pregnancy for depression and anxiety, after my baby was born it stopped helping. The doctor said it was postpartum depression and switched me to celexa and that didn't do anything. Now I'm taking 150 mg of effexor xr a day. it seems like it's making everything worse instead of better. does anyone know anything about ppd or what might help? anyone had effexor make their depression worse?
