I was wondering if some of you were able to confirm my findings.
Usually depression is accompanied by left-hemispheric underactivation, and mania is accompanied by right-hemispheric underactivation. I am currently trying to tame a irritable dysphoric mania.
For the past 4 days I have been wearing an eyepatch over my right-eye and an earplug in my left ear.I watch TV like this and go for walks in the park like this. As soon as I put it on I feel slightly confused. It takes me a while to find out exactly what I am looking at.
The right eye projects directly to the left hemishphere and vice versa. The corpus callosum then transmits that signal to the opposite hemisphere. In people with surgically destroyed corpus callosums, the right brain and left brain virtually work separately.
The ears however transmit the signals to the ajacent hemispheres.
My theory is that by only using my left eye (and right ear), I am going to force my right brain to process data first, before it gets interpreted by the left brain. So far I have noticed an effect. Infact for a few minautes a day, I feel both manic and sane thoughts at the same time, like they are ramming heads.
I was wondering if somebody else out there who may currently be experiencing mania (mine is celexa induced) would mind wearing a right eyepatch for a few hours a day (doing something around the house perhaps)
Let me know if you notice anything as I have.
