My pdoc considers 1 mg K/day a very low dose for someone with a serious anxiety disorder, and has offered to increase it several times. But this works for me, so I've stayed at this amount. I'm a 5'11" male who weighs about 175 lbs. Epileptics take up to 20 mg/day and apparently tolerate it. So, my guess is that your dose is too low -- "standard" doses for anxiety seem to be in the 1-2 mg/day range.
Xanax also works very well for me, and mixes well with K. Maybe you could ask your doctor if you could try a higher dose of K (and perhaps augment with Xanax)?
BTW -- these benzos can cause sleepiness, clumsiness etc. for the first week or so, but in my experience, this disappears pretty fast, while the anti-anxiety effects remain. And of course, if you go off them, you have to do so gradually.
Good luck!
P.S. Don't be afraid to phone your pdoc to discuss dosage adjustments. Remember that he/she is working for you, so be polite, but don't be intimidated.
