Hi, I am very glad you are doing better and didn't end your life, cos that would have sucked bad. I just also started Effexor today and so far I don't feel anything at all, except a headache..my doc made me try it for my minor anxiety levels. I have been on celexa, seroquel, and paxil before. Paxil helped my depression and anxiety levels, but paxil also made me too tired all the time, as was the same effect with seroquel, and also a skin rash with seroquel, and celexa didn't help enough with my anxiety and depression! grr. Anyway I am interested in how you feel with the Effexor, or anyone else when first taking it. Did anyone get bad headaches?
Also, I really think that a good diet full of nutrients and minerals helps so much more than any of these pills. I've listed below a supplement intake that I continue daily and highly recommend to anyone that is suffering. I'm not a doctor, BUT I could be with all the different medications and programs I've been through! (it should be fine to take these with your medications, but double check with your doctor just to make sure.)
I call this the "New You Diet" and since I've been taking it my depression, manic, pyschosis and even anexity levels have really diminished greatly! I can't say enough good things about all this stuff below, but just try it for yourself, here's the list:
Omega-3 Fish Oil: 1000mg to 4000mg daily
L-tyrosine: 500-1000mg daily
5-htp(this stuff is unreal! excellent for taking when coming off a drug) take 100mg to 200mg daily/only/or take more if NOT taking any SSRI'S or other anti-depressents.
Vitamin C: 500-1000mg daily
Niacin: 500-100mg daily
DMAE/or Cholin: 100-500mg daily
And a good Vitamin B complex daily.I know, there is a bit there to take, but it's worth it. Believe me. The vitamin C and B you can usually get within foods but the rest don't come as easy in a daily diet. So it's worth the little journey to the health food store.
Again make sure you talk to your doc just to make sure before trying it out, but it should be fine. I've had very bad depression with other HORRIBLE symptoms involved (OCD, Manic, even some pyschosis) So I really know what it's like, and taking those vitamins and nutrients above each day has boosted my energy levels and also made me feel much better mentally than almost all the drugs I've tried. Also make sure you drink plenty of water as well, keep a good sleeping pattern, and exercise, baby! IT might be hard at first to do all these things but it is really worth it in the end. Even girls are now starting to come onto me again.
Anton.
