Actually, most meds (requiring a script) are non-controlled. Controlled meds are only those that fall into schedule I-V.

Definition: Controlled substances are drugs or other substances, both narcotic and non-narcotics, that come under the jurisdiction of the DEA Controlled Substances Act, and are listed in the DEA Controlled Substances Inventory List.

In the board’s newsletter of April 2001, the board informed pharmacists that it would permit non-controlled prescriptions to be received by electronic transmission and then dispensed.
The DEA discourages the use of electronic transmitted prescriptions for controlled drugs. The DEA does not permit Schedule II controlled substances to be transmitted by electronic means because the ETP contains no required prescriber’s signature.
Schedule III through V prescriptions are permitted as long as the electronic transmitted prescription is verified by the pharmacist with the prescriber before dispensing.
