Paxil Nightmares

Posted by noa on May 24, 2003, at 22:27:54

I'm asking this on behalf of a friend of mine. She takes paxil, which works for her depression and anxiety. But she has intense, vivid, and scary nightmares all the time. She is particularly aware of the dreams in the early morning, ie, just before getting up.

She doses the paxil in the morning.

My own experience with ADs is that my dreams are very vivid, but with out the emotional intensity--they are never really scary or anything.

I don't know if her nightmares are SSRI dreams (vivid) or related to the paxil wearing off by morning?

I told her to ask her pdoc about periactin, which I know was used to treat vets with PTSD who had nightmares.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks.
