I have had the same problem with Parnate pooping out. When I did first start taking it, well over a year ago, I did find some relief from the depression but then it seemed to stop working. My pdoc added lithium as an augmenter. I tried Lithium for about 4 months - up to 1200 mg which was when I started to get the side effects. He said to got down to 900 mg. but the side effects were still there - trembling hands, twitching, my hair was falling out but worst of all, as I told my pdoc, I was getting 'stupid'. What would usually take me 3 minutes to type a post was taking me about 15 (I have been a Secretary for 30 years so I know how to type) and I was not getting 'things' or understanding them like I should. So he changed the med to Lamitcal, which I just started about 2 weeks ago. Now I am wondering if the Lithium was helping with the depression after all, but I could not continue going on with the side effects.
I am feeling very depressed again. On my own I upped the Parnate to 90 mg. and I am praying that the Lamitcal will just take time to 'kick in'.
It wouldn't be so bad, but I have returned to work after an abscence of 2 years and 4 months so I have to be as sharp as I can be.
What do you do when the Parnate poops out? Do you start another med or wait until you can start up the Parnate again? Are satisfied that any number of months relief from the depression is better than nothing so you wait until you can take the Parnate again? Have your ever augmented it?
I hope you don't mind me asking you so many questions but I am at my wits ends as I am going through these changes, not just at home, but at work now.
By the way, like many, I have been on nearly every antidepressant and combos for the last 20 years. I have treatment resistant depression
Thanks
