This looks like a good study in a reputable journal.One of the questions that arises is what one should do about it.In Iceland BP affects 0.2% of the population as against 6.5% in Germany.Schizophrenia is around 1% in each.That suggests that omega-3 fish oil may be protective to some extent against BP and I think relatives of patients with BP and not just BP patients should take omega-3 on a regular basis.I cannot specify a definite dose but up to 3g daily is generally regarded as safe by the FDA and a figure close to that level would probably be appropriate for relatives,especially with a high level of EPA rather than DHA (such as Omegabrite).BP patients themselves occasionally have to go beyond 5g.
