I'm back as Squiggles. Congrats. to Dr. Bob
on his new book - that's on my list; i just
ordered a history of psych. "The Invisible Plague"
by Dr. Fuller Torrey, and i have so many others
to catch up to. I would like to read the Jamison
one the medical one on bipolar disorder
(OUP) or order it. OUP books are very expensive;
You can order many US books
2nd hand, which is what i do and now that the Cdn.
dollar is rising that's good; i have not been able
to do that with Amazon Cdn.Anyway, i have VERY good news on Remeron. It seems
to be the best drug yet for my friend who has very
deep, unremittant unipolar depression. Sleep is ok,
no anxiety, no depression, just a bit of a hangover,
which we hope will go away - maybe the previous
drug should have been washed out.And she is only taking 15mg; her dr. may raise it who knows;
we will see. But this drug, unlike the others
(MAOI, imipramine, just about all the SSRIs, lithium,
and some others) hits the anxiety AND the depression;
so for some of you chemists it may have something
to do with a different structure - it is a NASSA
drug.I am very optimistic, and i confess tired -
imagine how she feels after 20 or so drug
trials, all of them sucky. I think this is
the greatest problem in psychiatry today - matching
the drugs with the condition - it really must
give fuel to the fires of the anti-psychiatry
desperados.So, that's it for now.
