I have never taken any of the drugs that Ben is on, so I can't really relate any experiences specifically, but I do know that sedation occurs quite often when someone starts taking an antipsychotic med. I know when I first took my antipsychotic I was extremely sleepy for several weeks, and then was tired after the dosage was increased. So, I spent 2 months basically sleeping all day. In the end the med worked great on my symptoms and it was all worth it.
So, I suggest you keep giving Ben the Abilify, and see if the sedation doesn't fade away after a couple months. These are strong medications but they do work for most people. Abilify has a good side effect profile (if I were to switch meds I would want to take Abilify first).
Also, I would suggest you bring this topic up at the next appointment--if the problem is severe enough there are other drugs that can help. I would avoid this option if at all possible, however, because I think taking the absolute minimum of meds is the best. I hope things work out for you and Ben.
