did you have 'compulsive' episodes before this combo?
Yes, these episodes aren't new, but they seem worse/more intense than before. I also have a hard time concentrating on tasks.
did they last at least 4 days or were you ever hospitalized for it?
They've never been severe enough to interfere with my "normal" functioning. If I have a bipolar disorder, the manic phase is pretty mild compat\red with those of friends of mine, who have ended up in the hospital, jail or morgue.
But 4 days? I'm not sure...I've never really recorded my "up" time to see how long it lasts.
I've always assumed that my up periods were times when the depression had been relieved...I've been diagnosed as dysthymic by one professional (licensed therapist with a MSW), and with major depression by another (a psychiatrist). But in recent years, some of my compulsive behaviors have escalated in terms of risk-taking and danger, and lately I feel "driven" to do these things....even though I know I shouldn't. Of course, guilt and anxiety follow.
