I have a idea I have read Mirtazapine (Remeron) is a antagonist (fights/blocks) of Histamine (H1) receptors. When I take a drug albuterol at night just before I sleep {its a inhaler type drug to help breath} it does the very same thing you describe they may do the very same thing. Just an idea.
