Carlson's brand is the one recommended by George Eby on his site "Rapid Recovery From Severe, Stress-Induced Depression Using Magnesium":

He says it is the only one he trusts, and he's been at this for several years now. Carlson's is the one I take too. My first post about my results with magnesium is here: http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/20030329/msgs/214008.html
In general, Carlson's lab has an excellent reputation. KAL is an inferior brand, imo. I've never been pleased with anything of their's that I've bought over the years, and I've quit buying that brand altogether.
Vitamin Shoppe has Carlson's on sale now: http://www.vitaminshoppe.com/browse/sku_listing.jhtml?DeptID=&OrigDeptID=1&DeptHeader=All+Departments&Letter=C&BrandID=157&BrandName=Carlson+Laboratories&ProdID=100806&ProdName=Magnesium&BreadCrumbType=Brand&BreadCrumbType_Product=&CatID=100196&CatName=Magnesium
