Does tolerance develop to carisoprodol (Soma)?

Posted by Ame Sans Vie on April 11, 2003, at 7:39:27

I realize this isn't a psych-med, but I was prescribed it recently for FMS/CFS and found it works wonderfully for my anxiety--better than any benzos I've taken. I know it's partially metabolized to meprobamate (Equanil).

I assume some sort of tolerance may develop after some weeks or months of daily use (I take one 350mg tablet four times daily, as needed), but I was just hoping someone could confirm this for me. If that's the case, I suppose I could always keep switching back and forth between Soma and Flexeril, which also offers some anxiety relief (but being related to the tricyclics, the dry mouth is awful--and I already take 150mg Elavil before bed to help with stage 3 and 4 sleep). TIA for any replies!

P.S. Still going strong on the Lexapro, now at 11 or 12 days on 20mg, side effects *very* tolerable. I think I actually have a reason to get my hopes up on this one. :-)
