The FDA specifically said "only those who are prescribed for narcolepsy may have it" otherwise it enters Schedule I. But they don't mean "only those who have narcolepsy can have it." They meant to say "only those prescribed it" instead. What, as if the DEA's going to bust down your door and yell "Stop! It's a felony to use Xyrem off-label for the purpose of treatment-refactory anxiety and depression!"
The DEA doesn't even know Drug Enforcement Agency is an ironic title, how would they know anything else??
That makes as much sense as having a Crime Enforcement Agency. How can someone enforce drugs, exactly? Make people take their ADD prescriptions each day? Maybe they should hunt me down for that if that's their main mission, once they get the memo their entire department title makes no sense.Sometimes big things like the FDA have people in them forget their own policies. Customs is notorious for this.
But the FDA does it constantly, as well as the DEA. How many times have you heard methamphetamine talked about as if it's never prescribed for therapeutic reasons? I've never once heard anyone talk about methamphetamine and clarify "but it's okay if you get it prescribed for ADD." Most pharmacists (including mine) don't even know it exists for ADD!!
