Is Lexapro for severe or mild D?

Posted by Bess on April 4, 2003, at 21:18:50

Hello. This is my first post to this board. I suffer with chronic, low-grade depression and have for as long as I can remember(although was not officially diagnosed until my mid 30's). I have tried AD's in the past including Prozac, Elavil, Wellbutrin and Zoloft. Nothing worked for me but I never really followed through due to intolerable s/e. I decided to try again recently and was pleased to discover that some new choices of AD's were available. I started taking Lexapro 3 days ago and have had many of the s/e mentioned in other posts here, inlcuding some that I haven't seen. I am experiencing chest pain which has only increased over these 3 days and was wondering if any one else has had this with Lexapro? I will attempt to wait out the s/e, as so many people on this board have recommended, as long as the chest pain or other s/e do not become intolerable. I have one other question regarding this med which I haven't seen addressed in any other forum. Is Lexapro prescribed mainly for severe depression? mild depression? or anxiety? Or is it useful in all these cases? I want to hang in there with this med but I also don't want to invest months taking a med that will cause severe s/e unless there is a reasonable chance for a good outcome. Thanks for any input.

Bess
