AP with stim... smart idea?

Posted by utopizen on March 30, 2003, at 21:37:21

Lots of people on this board take an antipsychotic and an amphetamine. Since one antagonizes dopamine and the other agonizes(?) or whatever, is this a problem?

I read up on this 70's diet pill, Eskatrol ("Fool Button" song was about it). It was a phentoiazine (sp) and dexedrine in a single capsule. The idea was you'd lose weight and the antipsychotic would counter the amphetamine's irritable effects if they were present in the patient.

Taken off-market in the 80's due to widespread abuse, not to mention that taking a first-generation antipsychotic for weight loss is even less justifiable than taking an amphetamine for it, and this pill had both.
