Hi Daizy--
The posters on this board do use a lot of shortcuts, acronyms, med terms that take a bit of time to clue in on. There are a bazillion online dictionaries, specialty and general, but the only one I keep on my toolbar links list is
http://yourdictionary.com
I like it because the page comes up with the cursor already in the search box, and because you can search specialized terms or general ones from the same box--no need to go to a specialty dictionary first. It will pronounce words, if you choose; but it doesn't do acronyms.MedNet has a decent medical dictionary, altho nothing (that's free) has everything.

Here's a med. abbreviations + acronyms site.

And here's one for med prefixes, suffixes and roots. Most med terms come from Latin; knowing a few beginnings, endings and roots will allow one to figure out most med vocab. For example, a- or an- is a prefix which means "not" or "lack of", as in "an-hedonia".

Hope this helps---medlib
