In reply to Second dose of Klonopin . I dont like this, posted by Tepiaca on March 5, 2003, at 12:27:54
For me, 1 mg/day has always worked. However, for the first 1-2 weeks, I had some side effects -- sleepiness, clumsiness, and a little short-term memory loss, plus some mood swings (mostly positive). Then it just sort of settled into place and all the side effects disappeared.
I did vary the dosing in the beginning though: first I tried 1 mg before bed, but the antianxiety effects wore off by the middle of the next day. Then I tried 0.25 mg 4X/day for a week or so, then 0.5 mg twice a day. Pretty soon, I started taking 1 mg all at once in the morning, and this works fine. I think there is an adjustment period, but for me it was quite short (at most 2 weeks).
By the way, my psychiatrist considers 1 mg/day a very low dose for someone with a major anxiety disorder, and said it often takes "several times" that amount to be effective. He offered to prescribe more, but I assured him that wasn't necessary. Apparently, I'm unusual in that respect.
