Some thoughts I have in response to your post:
Like you, I would want to know what is causing it. Until there is a plausible alternative explanation, I personally would have a hard time giving up on the idea that it is the medication. What a lot of us have learned is that there are rarely times when a blanket statement about a medication's side effects should be made. Something that could be rare could still be valid.
IMHO, I think it is possible that an individual could have a rare systemic reaction to a medication that was never reprorted before. But also, it is possible that it has occured as a (albeit rare) reaction to the medication, but your med. professionals just haven't heard about it.
Is there any way to evaluate other potential causes for the sores? If something else can be found to be the culprit, it sure would be easier to believ it isn't the meds. Any irritants in new apartment? Any new exposures to substances at work? Would having your apartment tested for small insects be useful? Or mold?Have you ever had an allergic reaction to any other medication? To anything environental?
Besides saying it is not likely to be the effexor, what did the dermatologist think it could be? Did they check for an infection?
I wonder if there is any kind of specialist in systemic allergic reactions or systemic immune reactions that could help you figure it out?
Hopefully, you'll get some ideas from other folks here who know more about medicine than I.
