In reply to EFFEXOR-XR HELP-I AM HIGH, posted by KrissyP on March 1, 2003, at 2:04:13
> I started back on Effexor-XR 6 days ago, and tonight I was not so much crawling out of my skin but felt such a high-like wow-everything is okee dokee. Has anyone ever had this experience? I don't remember this the last time I was on it. I can't stop moving my feet back and forth, I'm pickin at my acrylics *laugh*, and I am racing around like a chicken with my head cut off.
> I went to my doctor and asked if I could take it at night because an hour after I take it in the morning, I am ready to go back to sleep-very sleepy. But when I go to bed, I am anxious, and it affects me in falling asleep. Any advice? opinions? experience? Please it's bugging me
> Thank you
> KristenKristen, I have been on ADs 3 times (first Prothiaden, then Effexor and now Celexa) and within 3-10 of starting each drug I felt so high that I was worried I was turning manic! Don't worry. This feeling will more than likely settle a little in a couple of weeks' time. It's your mind's way of remembering what normal serotonin level's feel like..Your body is still adjusting.
I experienced day-time yawning and insomnia for the first week after starting on Effexor. Both of these side-effects dissipated very quickly. Unfortunately I started to get very apathetic and hypersomnic after about 1 year on Effexor and also had a few problems with minor electric shock-like sensations until after I had discontinued the drug.
I didn't experience any akathasia (of the leg shaking, carpet eating variety) on Effexor but now that I'm on Celexa there's nothing more relaxing than to have a good leg shake. (Relate to the acrylic-picking phenomena. :-) ) Sometimes I just lay on my bed and shake my right leg like mad to get rid of a `wired up' feeling. It's strange that you're experiencing this sensation 2nd time around on Effexor. I wonder if our certain aspects of our body chemistries shift permanently once we have been on and off a drug?
Is Effexor-XR only available in capsule form where you are living? If you could only get it in tablet form, you could try splitting the dose and taking half in the morning and half at night.
Best of luck. Let us know how you go.
