Maybe someone out there has a similiar situation. My daughter was diagnosed at 13 as having schizophrenia. She was placed on haldol which worked beautifully for her. Had to discontinue due to severe hair breakage. 3 years she was not on anything. Than it surfaced again and she was put on navane, did nothing, risperdal, did nothing and zyprexa which worked fine for 3 days but had to be discontinued due to seizures.
She was than diagnosed as having PDD and it was explained to us that the meds for it are risperdal, haldol and zyprexa. This is why the zyprexa worked. The agency where we went too were the ones who made that evaluation of the PDD.
Her psdoc put her back on risperdal which did nothing for schizo but helped with agitation and anxiety. I heard about abilify and shared with him on it. So he said we would give it a try.
So far it is not doing what I hoped it would do. There is slight improvement but the shizo symptons are still there.
My questions are is there anyone out there who knows something about PDD and if Abilify in fact does work for the problem. PDD is a form of autism, it it an umbrella which contains many disabilities. Shizophrenia and mental retardation are among some of them. Both of which my daughter unfortunately has.
Could someone please share with me on this. Like her psdoc is saying PDD is a psychosis and he overlooks ( I feel) the PDD. Please someone help me on this one. Thanks
