Drugs to treat schizophrenia have to achieve 65% or 70% blockade of dopamine D2 receptors to be effective. I think Risperdal can be effective for anxiety at lower dosages.
Drug dosing with APs for psychosis is very important and very difficult. One has to get just the right amount of blockade of dopamine receptors, not too much or there are side-effects such as EPS and tardive dyskinesia later on in life or too little where one is left with a psychosis.
Always start low and work up. People metabolize drugs differently. Two may work for some people where others require six milligrams of Risperdal.
One can take Risperdal once at night to eliminate daytime sleepiness.
The thing about APs is there is almost always some reaction. ADs are kind of hit and miss but APs are like benzos in this respect.
