Dexedrine and ADD and/or OCD experiences.

Posted by michael73 on February 12, 2003, at 14:45:36

Hi, I believe I am bipolar II with OCD. My mind slows down and I become confused and my memory goes when I go down bad. I was down yesterday when I saw my pdoc for the first time. Because I was talking in circles (I was actually blanking out and forgetting) he thought I might have ADD. Especially when I told him I thought that psuedoephedrine (non-pain relief Sudafed) cleared my mind. (Actually I think it just relieved the sinus pressure I was obsessing about and thinking was brain damage.) I always thought ADD was the one conition I could rule out - I'm generally the opposite of hyperactive and have a terrible time starting and stopping activities - which I would think would not be representative of ADD. I guess ADD and OCD can go together (something I didn't know before).
Anyway, I want to explore the possibility. I do feel I am in a mental fog (is that an ADD symptom?) I have racing thoughts only when I am worried about something (usually an obsession - I ruminate a lot). In grade shcool my teachers said I was smart (I was always an A student) but at the same time I was dense (I was too serious and did not laugh at jokes or enjoy recess.) My new pdoc said that if I had ADD taking dexedrine would cut the fog right away and I guess suddenly allow me to focus. I think I focus too much as it is, but I tried it anyway and I think it just sped me up physically. I don't think it solved any mental problem for me.
I'd appreciate experiences with ADD medication from those that really feel that they have ADD including those that also have OCD. I always thought they were like opposite conditions and so this is new to me. Thanks Michael73
