I have a cabinet where I keep my meds. Among all my other meds, I have two forms of fish oil--gelcaps, which is what I tried first, and liquid, which I prefer.
I noticed, when I opened the cabinet, that it was getting kind of fishy-smelling. I wasn't sure if it was one or both of the fish oils causing the smell. Usually, the liquid has no fish smell, so I assumed it was the gelcaps. I moved both to the refrigerator. A bit of curiosity got me, and I then looked carefully over the label on the liquid bottle, and sure enough it says "to preserve freshness", it should be refrigerated after opening. I am not sure that the liquid was the only smelly culprit, but I noticed a bit later, when I was in the car going to work, I took off my gloves and my hands smelled a bit fishy. There had indeed been a bit of oil on the outside of the liquid oil bottle, and it got on my fingers--just a bit. Later, after hands were washed and no longer fishy, I used the gloves again, then took them off, and sure enough, my hands smelled fishy again.
Anyway, the point of this rambling message is that perhaps people using liquid fish oil should consider refrigerating it after opening. I don't know why I missed that advisory on the label, although it was rather tiny writing.
