I am diagnosed with treatment resistant depression and panic disorder. I had PD and depression for the past 20 years, but it was always put in remission with anti-depressants. 2 1/2 years ago I had a relaps after going off my medication (Paxil 20mg). From that point on I was put on so many differnt ADs to no avail. My constant was a high dose of Xanax. I changed Pdocs 1 year ago and the new doc put me on 20mg of Paxil CR and 2.5mg of Zyprexa (the Xanax was to be reduced over the next 6 months).
Te Zyprexa was the first med that gave me a little improvement. It knocked me out for the first 2 weeks that I took it. In the following weeks the sedation wasn't so bad anymore. For the first 2 hours after I took it, I experienced a little more drive, energy - then the sedation set in.
While my anxiety was getting under control, the depression still lingered. 3 month ago my Pdoc suggested to start Lamictal as an add-on. I have slowly increased my Lamictal dose and am at 100mg right now. I noticed improvements as the dose got higher.
Since I am feeling better, I thought I could get off the Zyprexa (I gained about 40 lbs since on it). Also, I don't like the idea of being on an AP for a long period of time. I know that this med has helped me, but I want to see if I can do without. So far the only symptoms from reducing this med are the once I listed in my first post. My Pdoc didn't want me to reduce yet; he thought that I should be more stable before attempting this. If it doesn't work, I will have to go up again.
Why are you going off the Zyprexa? And how is your withdrawal going?
Take care
