The CRF antagonists are being studied, but are not too far along yet. The "first generation" ones were studied in a small phase 2 clinical trial at the Max Planck Institute in Germany; 80% of the severely depressed, treatment-resistant patients improved. The "second generation" molecules are in phase 1 trials at Glaxco-Smith-Wellcome. I think the molecules themselves were first identified at the Salk Institute, where there is on-going research on them. I so hope they work out, as they would stop the HPA axis dysregulation right at the source, before it could damage the neurotransmitters and the brain itself. We'll have to watch how the research is progressing.
