In reply to Wich SSRI does not cause lost of sex drive???, posted by Tepiaca on January 7, 2003, at 16:46:30
Oh, this has been such a problem for me. I'm on imipramine now (a tricyclic) with no sexual side effects. In the past I took Sam-e without sexual side effects but it was expensive. Someone mentioned adding ritalin. I took Prozac with ritalin and the sex stuff improved. Many people say effexor is better than SSRI's as sexual stuff goes. I did not find this to be true. Two friends of mine took it with no trouble, so... maybe worth a shot. I couldn't handle wellbutrin but many do and it's reputed to be without sexual side effects. Don't give up. My doc has in the past mixed meds so I could keep doses down and bypass side effects. Maybe a tricyclic with a little effexor? They say Serzone is better as far as sex goes, but it sedated me a lot. Sometimes med "cocktails" are the answer. Just be wary of docs who say it can't be improved upon because there are lots of things to try. People have added buspar to SSRI's to improve libido. Didn't work for me, but I may not have taken enough.
Best,
Lia
